Superstar Huge Unheated Ceylon Sapphire Diamond Ring

available exclusively from Divine Finds Jewelry at Ruby Lane

Have you ever seen a multi-gemstone ring quite like this one? I certainly haven't and let me tell you, this is definitely one that no photos can do justice too. If you think it looks good here, the real thing will knock you out!

Now I wasn't going to do a blog until the new year but since my partner just listed this one in our shop, I wanted our followers to be the first to see it. So spectacular! With a certified replacement value of over $15,000, this cocktail ring features an unheated natural Ceylon sapphire of a glorious violet-blue in its center. Surrounding it in a rainbow of colors are 25 natural sapphires: greens, pinks, orange, topped off by nearly a carat of diamonds sprinkled throughout. What a bouquet of multi-gemstones and diamonds for your finger. Indescribable!

And now the best part: until January 2, you can buy this beauty at 10% off the current asking price during our BOXING WEEK SALE. But it's not the only item being offered at a 10% discount: all items in both our Divine Finds Jewelry Shops at RUBY LANE and RUBY PLAZA that are priced over $500 can be had at a 10% discount.

We are receptive to offers on all other items in our shops as well, so if you've this week off and got some Christmas money to buy yourself something with and  didn't find anything in the real world that grabbed your fancy on Boxing Day, why not slip over and browse our shops. Happy Boxing Week shopping!

With only 9 days left to the big day, I've decided to wind down my blog for this year. No more talk of jewelry, sales, shipping dates etc. Like you, I have other things to do in preparation for Christmas.

So I'm keeping this only long enough to thank all of you who have faithfully followed by blog over 2011 and who've taken time to slip over to Divine Finds Jewelry at Ruby Lane or Ruby Plaza to check out our items. If you've purchased something for yourself or others over the past year, we thank you most sincerely and hope you have been happy with your purchases and our service.

I'd like to leave you with a very special "divine find" of my own: the video above is a very recent performance of the beautiful song immortalized by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, "THE PRAYER" from Quest for Camelot. The performance above features singer/songwriter, Victoria Boland of the duo, AndrewVictoria. Her partner for this performance is Steven B. Andrews. While they are not Celine and Andrea, their rendition is very lovely and earned them a standing ovation when they performed it at Carmens Banquet Centre in Hamilton, Ontario on Dec. 14th. You're most welcome to share this with your friends and family and thank you for doing so.

With that, this is a wrap! Whatever way you choose to say it, Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings and all the best for 2012. See you next year!

So what are you hoping your husband or daughter or son will give you for Christmas this year .. apart from the love that costs nothing and means so much?

If it's jewelry, especially vintage jewelry, before it gets too late for us to ship to wherever you are in the world, we invite you to check out our DIVINE FINDS SHOPS at RUBY LANE and RUBY PLAZA, especially if you haven't been over in a while.

You see, we're accepting reasonable offers on over more than half our items so this is the best chance you, or hubby or whoever has to buy you something you've been wanting for so long at a lower price.

Go to this link:,id=0,onsale=1.html

and you will find over 60 items on sale or inviting your offers in our Ruby Lane Shop. Do the same for our Ruby Plaza Shop at this link:,id=0,onsale=1.html

And even if the item you love isn't marked "SALE' or "make an offer" don't hesitate to email us from the item page and ask us anyway. You never know: we might just accept your offer but you'll never know if you don't try!

Check today's date: it's December 9th. You have only 7 days left to make an offer if you want to get an item in time for Christmas. After December 15, all items will return to their original prices. Like you, we want to get ready for Christmas and processing and packaging orders after December 15th will be near impossible. We hope you take advantage of us in the next 7 days LOL!

Oh, in case you haven't watched it yet, enjoy the video above. It's set to a song written by a dear friend and recorded for him by my daughter, Victoria. We hope you enjoy listening to "the Magic of Christmas" while you look at our jewels". Thanks for watching.

If you have one , what's your favourite animal? Dog? Cat? Monkey? Tiger? Cougar? Horse? Snake? Whatever it is, chances are there's a pin, brooch, ring or bangle out there for you.

Over the years of selling jewelry, we have found our cat rings are hot sellers. They're in and out of our shops within a week. Snake jewelry too is in demand. We come across a fair amount of cat and snake jewelry in our searching for items for our shops, but some of the other animals are harder to find. However, after we listed the delightful 14k YORKIE PIN (shown below) in our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOP this week, I decided to check through our inventory and I see we have quite a nice selection of gift items for those of you thinking of giving animal jewelry this Christmas. There's more than I have time to list in this post, so I'll highlight a few and do another post later this week on the rest.

Let's begin with that YORKIE PIN just mentioned:

This little bundle of joy is solid 14k. She weighs 17 grams and has faceted sapphire eyes that seem to follow you wherever you go ... just like your real life doggie! The little blue enamelled bow in her hair has a tiny VS diamond in its center. This designer piece, signed MARTINE, is 1.3" high and 1.5" wide. Such a cutie for the dog lovers out there!

But then, we also have this 1.62ct DIAMOND 18k Shih-tzu PIN for you too:

He's a darling little fellow, less than an inch high and weighing half of what "martine" does, but he's super valuable with those brilliant diamonds all over him. Why, he even comes with an appraisal for $4550 CAD, and from now until December 15th, you can make an offer on him and get him at a discount between 10 - 30% off. But you'll have to make the offer to see just how little he'll cost!

Of course, if both the above doggie pins are out of your budget, and you like costume jewelry, we have this ALICE CAVINESS POODLE PIN below being offered to you on consignment:

This is a truly rare find from this vintage costume jewelry designer. It's stamped "Germany Sterling Alice Caviness" on the back and is highly collectible. 3/4" high and 1" wide, it's beautifully detailed in sterling silver and marcasite with red enamelling and an asking price of only $125 USD.

For those who prefer bracelets to brooches and snakes to dogs, below is a stunning 14k YELLOW GOLD DIAMOND SNAKE BANGLE with genuine ruby eyes. Weighing 11.1 grams and designed for a size 6.5 wrist, it's in wonderful vintage condition and a lovely gift for that special someone this Christmas:

And if you'd like a demure DIAMOND SNAKE RING to go with that ma'am,  here's a very affordable one from our DIVINE FINDS SHOP at RUBY PLAZA:

This stunning and somewhat sexy snake ring dates to the 1970's. It's alluring design coils for one inch along your finger. It's eye-catching and undeniably intriguing and is available at a very low $349 USD.

Before I go, I just want to remind readers of the RED TAG SALE coming up very soon ie. December 3-5, where 15 items in our shop will be available at a whopping 30% discount on their current price.

However, that's not all. From here on until December 15, we've put MAKE AN OFFER on more than half the items in our shop. There are "pre-sets" on your offers ie. if you make an offer and your offer is within our preset discount, your offer is automatically accepted. Now how big a discount can you get? Well the presets are set between 10 - 40% ... and many of them are in the 15% - 30% range. So there's some really great savings to be had when you make an offer by December 15th.

What are you waiting for ... go over to our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOP at RUBY LANE and start looking for all the "MAKE AN OFFER" items.  Don't be shy! Make your offer. That's the only way you'll know if your offer is acceptable. And you might just get quite a surprise at the saving you can make on that item you've been wanting for ages from DIVINE FINDS.

It's officially CYBER MONDAY today and up for grabs until midnight tonight EST at $200 less than its original price is the rare and very beautiful TIFFANY 18k Diamond Lily Pin

Weighing a decent 8.98 grams of 18k gold, the pin measures 62.50mm from top to bottom and has 12 VVS-VS diamonds in the lower half of the stem totalling about 0.15cts. This pin comes with its original plush blue Tiffany Box. What a  fantastic gift for the Tiffany jewelry collector this Xmas!

Also being offered at a whopping $600 saving during our CYBER MONDAY SALE is the exquisite 14k gold ballerina style sapphire and diamond ring shown on the right. Appraised over $6220 USD, this beautiful ring is being offered today at less than one-quarter its appraised value. There's 1.15cts of round cut and baguette diamonds set around that certified "unheated" 1.52ct cornflower blue sapphire. Watch someone's eyes shine brighter than those diamonds (if that's possible!) when they open this gift at Christmas. At the Cyber Monday Sale price, we're giving it away!

Some of the savings being offered on CYBER MONDAY are even better than those we can offer during  the upcoming RED TAG SALE that is happening this weekend from December 3-5 at Ruby Lane. To find all the items on sale TODAY ONLY until midnight EST, simply type "CYBER MONDAY SALE" into our search box and they'll all show up in a list.

Now you will notice when you stop by our DIVINE FINDS SHOP at RUBY LANE, that those items we'll be listing in the RED TAG SALE are already showing. Not all are up yet, but when you see one you like, click on the item and you'll see how much of a discount you'll get on that item between Dec. 3-5. For instance, you'll be able to buy the outstandingly beautiful Victorian amethyst and  seed pearl pendant shown below at 30% off its current price:

Or you can save 30% on the dazzling diamond cocktail ring by JABEL (below) which has been appraised at over $7000 with its 1.23cts of superior diamonds:

Today's Cyber Monday Sale and the upcoming RED TAG SALE will be our last sales of 2011. Please remember that shipping takes time and the closer we get to Christmas, the more choked the postal highways become. We will not be able to ship via normal means after December 15. The only way to get items to you after that date is by using expensive courier services. So please, take advantage of our sales to SAVE, not just on the items but on shipping fees.

Happy Shopping!

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Back in October, we sent out a newsletter to our clients, and also posted a notice on the DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY PHOTOBLOG at TUMBLR about a special promotion we'll be holding, without much prior notice, called DOLLAR DISCOUNT DAYS.

What's a DOLLAR DISCOUNT DAY? It's a 24-hour pocket of time in which you can go into either of our shops at RUBY LANE or RUBY PLAZA, locate an item you've been dying to buy, and get a big discount on that item ... but you must do it within 24 hours! Here's the discounts you can get:

ITEMS PRICED $250 - $500 … get a $50 discount
ITEMS PRICED $501 - $1000 … get a $100 discount
ITEMS PRICED $1001 - $2500 … get a $150 discount
ITEMS OVER $2501 - $5000 … get a $250 discount
ITEMS OVER $5001 … get a $500 discount

Now those discounts apply to the current price shown on the item. What that means to you is,  even if the item is already reduced, you get a further discount!

One exception to this sale: the discounts apply to all regular items but NOT to items being sold on consignment. You are welcome, however, to make an offer on any consignment items.

Well we have a DOLLAR DISCOUNT DAY coming up next week ie. between November 20 - 27, 2011 ... but you'll have to watch this blog or look for a notice  on the shop page itself that says THIS is the DD Day! We haven't decided ourselves which day it is. We'll just do it on the spur one day next week!

But because Christmas is coming and we know you've started your Christmas shopping (our shops have been busy this past week) we're going to make it easier for you to save with DDD. Instead of giving you just 24 hours to go in and make  your purchase, we'll give you 48 hours. How's that? Now all you have to do is watch this blog or check in daily at each of our sites to see if it's DD DAY!

Want an example of how big a saving you can make? This fantastic cabochon emerald and diamond ring below is current ON SALE for $1329. On the DD Day, you can save another $150 on that and buy it for only $1179! WOW!

GARLAND Emerald/Diamond Estate Ring available from

Or how about the outstanding JABEL diamond cocktail ring below which is appraised over $7000, has already been reduced by $300, and on which, with the Dollar Discount Day offer, you will save another $250.  That's a full discount of $550 when you purchase it within that 48 hour period. And LAYAWAY is OK!

There's so much gorgeous estate vintage and antique jewelry to choose from in our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOPS at RUBY LANE and RUBY PLAZA. Visit them now and watch this blog or the shops themselves next week for that 48-hour DOLLAR DISCOUNT DAY SALE

NOTE: We are constantly moving items between our two shops. If you click a link in this blog and it doesn't take you to the item in one shop, check out the other shop. We might have just moved it since posting this blog!

50ct DIAMOND sells for $2.7million - about 1/3 its appraised value!

Perhaps you've already heard about this auction. It was held by RITCHIES in Canada on November 13th. RITCHIES is another of those BIG auction houses a little "smaller" than Christies or Sothebys, closer to one of our Canadian favourites,  DUPUIS.

Apparently RITCHIES went bankrupt in 2009 but the name was purchased by a new owner earlier this year, and yesterday's auction at the Royal Ontario Museum was quite the comeback. That 50ct diamond, about the size of a quarter, has an estimated value of $10 million and was expected to fetch around $4 million. Well it only (!) got $2.7million (hope the consigner is happy LOL) but even so, it was still a record sale for a Canadian auction house. You can read all about this auction HERE and if you have time, slip over to Ritchie's site and you can tease yourself looking at all the gorgeous jewelry that was up for grabs yesterday.

Seeing how much these diamonds are worth made me think about the many superb diamond rings we carry at DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY. Now of course, the larger a single diamond, as in the case above, the greater its value ie. big is better! While we have several rings with many diamonds, we have very few with a single large diamond. Why? Because they're so darn expensive to buy, especially if you're looking at quality as well as size. And we do believe in quality ie. a huge 2-carat diamond might knock your socks off but if it's included with black carbon deposits or is milky (cloudy) its value is greatly diminished. No, what you have to go for, if you can afford it and want a massive diamond is one with high clarity and color gradings ... and those don't come cheap!

But diamonds are forever and do retain their value regardless of size. And with Christmas coming, thoughts turn to engagement rings. To buy a near one-carat solitaire brand-new, if it's of top quality, is expensive. But we do have a fabulous princess-cut solitaire in our DIVINE FINDS SHOP at RUBY PLAZA that's worth considering. It's the one shown below:

0.91ct princess-cut diamond solitaire set in 18k white gold
available from DIVINE FINDS at RUBY PLAZA

The GIA-certified diamond in its 18k white gold setting is a 0.91ct. stone of VS2 clarity and H color. How good is that? It's better than good: it's superb! And just like the big diamond on which this post is based, it's valued at 3 times over our asking price. Just a magnificent ring any woman would love to show off.

Before I sign off on this blog, I have to share this with you too. At that same Ritchies auction, LOT 140 (which you can see by clicking that link) is for an emerald-cut ruby and diamond ring which was expected to fetch $4000 - $6000. The ruby is 1.58cts and is flanked by 0.92cts of diamonds, all set in 18k. Well, in our DIVINE FINDS SHOP at RUBY PLAZA, we have almost the same ring, but ours is a SET and it's fashioned from platinum, not white gold. It's shown below. The appraisal on our set is over $13, 5000, but we're asking just under $4000 ... and that's for 2 rings! And there's no "buyer's premium" when you purchase from DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY in either shop!

1.48 ruby flanked by 0.84cts diamond engagement ring + matching wedding band
appraised over $13,500 is being offered for less than 1/3 that price at

As I settled in to write today's post on necklaces, I decided to do a quick search on necklaces worn by celebrities. The first page that came up was a surprise. I clicked the link and it brought me to this site: JEWELLERY OF TODAY'S BRITISH ROYALTY. You must click that link and go take a look at what women wore on their necks in the days of the Tudors. Fascinating ... not to mention a far cry from the less elaborate, lighter looking and lighter weight of necklaces today. Just imagine wearing this Indian Diamond Emerald necklace worn by Queen Alexandra:

It really makes me wonder how those noble ladies wore such heavy pieces around their necks, coupled with the elaborate clothing on her shoulders, not to mention the jewels atop her head. I just bet their heads and shoulders ached at the end of a day!

Well not for me I'm afraid. Give me something more delicate and lovely like this latest addition to DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY at RUBY LANE below:

This graceful necklace offers, but doesn't broadcast its 50 carats of beautifully faceted sapphire beads that feel "barely there" on your neck but will never go un-noticed because of its uniqueness. I've not seen one like this before. This is a vintage choker with a stamped platinum clasp and chain. Adding to its allure is the central diamond and platinum leaf-design pendant with 50 round brilliant diamonds for a total carat weigh of around 0.60cts. I don't know about you, but that's more than enough sapphires and diamonds around my neck, minus any headaches yet! Take a closer look at this magnificent necklace HERE

If, like Queen Alexandra above, you're more into emeralds than sapphires, maybe this beauty in 14k gold below is more to your taste ... and budget!

Again, this emerald and diamond necklace is demure and lightweight. It's the perfect accessory for that strapless or low cut dress you're wearing on New Year's Eve. It contains 1.05cts of rich green emeralds and nearly half a carat of diamonds. It's been appraised over $4500 CAD but is offered at a very reasonable price by DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY at RUBY LANE. There are 11 buyers who have added this piece to their wish list or cart, so don't let it get away from you. Christmas shopping has started in earnest now.

Of course, if a pretty vintage lavalier is more YOU, take a closer look at this truly affordable 9ct ruby pendant below:

I must say I'm truly surprised this one hasn't sold yet: it has 29 people watching it! Who will claim it? It dates to the Edwardian era and is being offered at a very low $895! It has 38 natural seed pearls and 22 bordeaux-red rubies. The pendant measures 1 3/4" X 1 1/4". Topped by that pretty bow, it takes you back to earlier days. It's fit for a queen and you can make it yours by visiting THIS LINK

Yes, Virginia, You can afford to shop for Christmas at Divine Finds Jewelry!

You know it's easy to conclude, when you read this blog and see some of our exquisite vintage jewelry, that while it's lovely and all that, you just can't afford any of it, right?

Well that's not really true. Yes, I do tend to feature the more expensive pieces, but that's because folks really aren't all that interested in the little trinkets, especially unsigned ones, that we also carry in our DIVINE FINDS SHOPS. This blog is designed to heighten your awareness of rare gemstone jewelry or  both fine and costume designer signed pieces ... or antique jewelry ... and it goes without saying, most of those items are indeed, higher end when we're looking at price.

But with Christmas now barely over a month away, and knowing just how tight the economy is right now, I'm sure many of you just can't even think of giving more costly jewelry as gifts. So we've put together the video above to show you that at DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY at both RUBY LANE and RUBY PLAZA, we have gift ideas ranging in price from only $10 - $199 .. and there's lots to choose from. We've put the current price of each piece right on each photo. To locate the piece you like, just visit both links above.

As you'll hear at the beginning of the video, the clock is ticking: The countdown to Christmas has begun. And don't forget, that being located in Canada, we won't be able to ship in time, unless you're prepared to pay premium shipping, for orders placed after December 15th. So the time to look and shop is NOW!

Dating to around 1928, this stunning Art Deco diamond & Sapphire Platinum Ring is available exclusively from DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY

If you're a fan of Princess Kate's engagement ring (originally owned by Princess Diana) ... and who isn't ... then you'll love this latest addition to DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY at RUBY LANE. This stunning Art Deco Diamond and Sapphire Ring has been entrusted to us for sale on consignment by one of our regular and most loyal buyers who purchased it years ago. She's forever buying rings from us and as she puts it, "I can't keep buying your gorgeous ring without unloading some of my own!"

Well what a beauty she's offering you here. This is truly a keepsake ring that is at least 83 years old. Fashioned from platinum (which continues to increase in price at a greater rate than gold) it houses a superb rectangular cushion-cut 7 carat sapphire. Now that's a big sapphire and very, very valuable. Though deep in color and saturation, it's clean and light goes right through its beautiful blue.

Enhancing its beauty are 24 old European cut diamonds of VS1 clarity and H color, quite unusual for such old diamonds. Hallmarks suggest the ring is of European origin, most likely France, and it's stamped "4 7 28", most likely the date the ring was first given to some lucky lady. Learn more about this incredible ring and see more photos HERE.

At the other end of the spectrum, for those who are into designer signed costume jewelry, we've added the wonderful CUCKOO CLOCK PENDANT by TRIFARI shown below to our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOP at RUBY LANE too.

Cuckoo clock pendant by Trifari is a rare collectible available from DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY

This RARE and very COLLECTIBLE piece is also being sold on consignment and the owner is willing to consider offers, as is the owner of the Diamond Sapphire Ring above. Why not check both of them out and make an offer today? You could make someone very happy at Christmas with items like these. The Christmas countdown has started!

Antique 18k carved amethyst ring is ON SALE right now at

You've finally found a gorgeous piece of antique jewelry that you love and can afford. Despite its age, it's in top condition like that gorgeous ROSE AMETHYST CARVED 18k RING above and you want to keep it that way. How do you look after it so it stays looking good for many years to come?

Well one thing you should do is research the "hardness" or durability of the gemstone in your ring or necklace. Some stones are more brittle, easier to chip and damage than others. Even diamonds get chipped if you're not careful. We have a lot of very informative articles on our site at BUY GENUINE GEMSTONES that you will find useful. It's a busy site and gets lots of traffic, so obviously there are many people wanting to know about about things like the popularity, value and quality of precious and semi-precious gems. You may find what you want there.

But in the meantime, here's some information pertaining, in this case, to amethysts. I've chosen to do this post on amethyst because it's such a popular stone but not the hardiest. Did you know, for instance, that amethysts are affected by temperature changes ie. either too hot or too cold can alter their color. When you have a rose-pink amethyst like the one above, you want to keep it that way and not suddenly find out it's turned smokey-gray. So when you're not wearing your ring, be careful where and  how it is stored.

Before storing any jewelry, if you have just cleaned it, make sure it's thoroughly dry. If you put a ring like the one above into a box before it's fully dry, that gorgeous 18k carved mounting will discolour; on top of that, the box interior is likely to mould.

And while we're talking about cleaning jewelry, what's the best way to clean that precious antique ring above? Use a soft bristled brush, warm water and a mild detergent and brush carefully. Amethyst can scratch quite easily. Then wipe it dry with a soft cloth when you're done. Remember, make sure it's completely dry before you box it.

Being in the business of selling rings, we are always looking at rings on our friends, relatives and acquaintances. It's amazing how often their expensive diamond rings look dingy and dirty. The sparkle is buried under months or even years of dirt. And yet, it takes 5 minutes to clean your rings as described above. People spend more time washing and polishing their cars and floors than cleaning their rings. Yet diamond and precious gemstone rings hold their value a lot longer than a car!

And speaking of cleaning cars and floors, when you're doing that, take off your rings for heaven's sake! Harsh chemicals can do irreparable damage to your rings. So do the chemicals in hot tubs and pools. I've had gold chains turn black while sitting in a hot tub. Always remove your jewelry before slipping into that tub!

Well one last thought before I go today: that superb CARVED 18K ANTIQUE AMETHYST RING shown above is included right now in our "NO TRICKS, JUST TREATS SALE" at RUBY LANE. That sale ends midnight November 7th. You can buy that beauty for only $529 if you act fast. And just an FYI, there are 24 other Ruby Lane shoppers already who have their eye on that one!

Royal de Versailles 18k Necklace expected to fetch upwards of $15, 000 at DUPUIS AUCTION
It's THAT time of year! The time when some of the big auction houses hold their "to die for" jewelry auctions and I'm dying! Now, when I am no longer buying any jewelry, having made the decision several months ago that it's time for me to retire and write about other things important to me, these auction houses send me their glorious catalogues and drive me crazy with their delicious, out of my budget, jewels!

That one above is a signed "Royal de Versailles" necklace fashioned from 18k gold  and expected to fetch $14,500 - 19,000 USD. The lattice-work design is overlaid with diamond florets and that bow is full of pave-set diamonds. While it's not something I'd ever wear (where would I wear it?!) as this is a live auction online, I can't wait to see what it actually goes for. Click the link below the photo to read up on it on Dupuis' own site.

And if you're a regular reader of this blog, you know I'm into CARTIER, and there's quite a bit of Cartier in Dupuis' Fall Auction in November 2011. Oh to be able to afford something like this SAPPHIRE/DIAMOND BROOCH below:

Isn't it exquisite! The oval sapphire weighs 13.69 carats. It's set above a 2.30ct pear-shaped diamond. And mounted all around both in platinum are old mine cut and baquette diamonds. It comes with the French Assay marks, stamped Cartier of course, and is expected to sell for a mere $66,500 - $85,500! Just a drop in the bucket for some, but the stuff of dreams for women like me I'm afraid.

You just have to go over to DUPUIS and browse their catalogue. There's so much to see and drool over.  Now you will see some items that look very reasonable and quite affordable, but just remember there's a buyer's premium of 25% on anything you buy. You get a break if the item goes for more than $50,000; in that case you pay only a 20% buyer's premium! Then since this auction is in Ontario, you also have to pay HST (harmonized sales tax).  That's another 13% on top of the rest!

That brings me to one other lovely piece that caught my eye because it reminds me of this one in our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOP

We're currently offering this necklace at $500 below its original price: until midnight, November 7th, you can purchase this cultured freshwater pearl necklace with diamonds and carved emeralds, rubies sapphires in the 18k clasp for only $2695. Does that seem a lot? Well compare it to this one being offered at the DUPUIS AUCTION

This too has cultured pearls and a diamond enamelled clasp made of 14k. Dupuis estimates it will fetch between $3800 and $4750, making ours very reasonably priced, especially when you consider that there's no 25% buyers' premium + another 13% in sales tax on top of the sale price + buyers' premium.

Well that's enough for now. I could go on forever but just today, another 3 catalogues arrived. These came from HERITAGE AUCTIONS and now I'm dying even more. There's so much we'd love to buy for our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOPS but then, you can go and bid on them yourselves if you dare LOL! Next post, I'll try to bring you some highlights from the Heritage Catalogue. Oh to be rich!

Well did you survive Hallowe'en? I'm not sure our little puppy, Duffy, shown on the left did. Not only did the family think it'd be fun to "wig"  him but all those children coming and going, banging on the door, shouting "trick or treat" really freaked him out. By 8pm I had to shut our front door and turn off the lights to stop him from barking! Drove me crazy. It didn't help that I was also trying to put another jewelry video together to show off what's left in our  gorgeous line of gemstone rings. Trying to locate pictures to include, check what's sold, or has a sale pending, or what's actually available was no easy task between his barking and handing out the treats. Talk about multi-tasking!!

Well the good news is I did finish the video ... this morning actually ... and you can watch it below. These are the gemstone rings you can still buy in our shops at RUBY LANE and RUBY PLAZA and many of them are being offered at great reductions.

Hallowe'en may be over, but we're still giving out the treats. Some of them, like the fantastic VAN CLEEF & ARPELS 1.8ct diamond cluster ring below are almost at a give away price. Well you may not believe that but after all, this is Van Cleef & Arpels. You can save $1000 on our original asking price for this ring if you put in your order by November 7th. And yes, you can buy it on layaway:

And the price includes that original Van Cleef & Arpels box too!

We've added 2 more items to the NO TRICKS, JUST TREATS SALE today too so be sure to scurry over and see what else you can SAVE on when you buy by November 7th. Sales are being made right now since I sent out an announcement to our mailing list last night. Don't be the last one over to DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY at RUBY LANE. See you there!

As partiers are busy carving pumpkins and searching for the ugliest, scariest or grossest outfits they can find, and the little ghosts and goblins dream of bags full of candy, the spirit of Hallowe'en has hit us at Divine Finds Jewelry too. And while we can't just give away our goodies, we are offering you some pretty sweet treats in our one-week long "No Tricks ... Just Treats" Sale, which ends at midnight, November 6th.

In great timing for the coming glitzy jewelry Christmas season,  we are offering a generous $500 off this fantastic and very beautiful authentic necklace and earring set by SCHIAPARELLI. The necklace is 15 - 16" long and the clip-on earrings a full
1 3/4" high, both featuring those glorious large stones so dear to Elsa's heart and in her favourite shades of pink, purple & amethyst. No Trick! TREAT yourself to this one by Midnight, Nov 7.

The unusual 14k SIFFARI LAPIS RING shown on the right is being sold on consignment for one of our regular customers and she told us recently when she stopped by to pick up her latest purchase from us that she wants her consignment pieces SOLD so she can buy more of our pieces LOL! So we've marked this one right down to a mere $295 in our "No Tricks, Just Treats Sale". This is for the person with eclectic tastes who likes designer signed jewelry and knows a bargain when she sees one. But you must put in your purchase order by November 7th to get it at this great price!

Now of course, if you're in the market for a truly outstanding engagement or gemstone ring that will turn heads with its beauty, here's your chance to save $400 on this PINK-PURPLE unheated Sapphire & diamond ring appraised at over $8500. Isn't it magnificent?! No trick here .. just one exquisite & unique ring being offered at a special price until Nov. 7th in our "No Tricks, Just Treats Sale" at Divine Finds Jewelry
And then, at a much lower price, you can
purchase the most popular, as in "wished-for" item in our shop: the stunning AQUAMARINE and DIAMOND ring shown on the right. It's truly baffled us how there can be 35 people who have added this one to their wish list and/or shopping cart and it remains unsold. Well maybe one of them will have the good sense to snap it up now during our "No Tricks, Just Treats Sale" by November 7th. It can be yours for $350 less than its original price.  Only $749 when you place your order by midnight, November 7 in our NO TRICKS, JUST TREATS SALE.

Check our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOP at RUBY LANE for more great buys during this sale and have a Happy Hallowe'en. Oh by the way: did you realize it's only 55 days till Christmas? That's not much when you have to allow for shipping times. All orders must be shipped no later than December 15th. Please don't wait till December to shop with us. Start now ... and SAVE!

Van Cleef & Arpels "Alhambra" Jewelry is forever popular!

Let me start by stating one thing: we don't own a single piece of Van Cleef & Arpel's "ALHAMBRA" jewelry, so this post isn't a sales pitch for an item in our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOPS at RUBY LANE and RUBY PLAZA

What got me onto this subject was a surf I made of eBay about an hour ago. I wanted to see how jewelry sales are going there, specifically all fine jewelry and especially designer signed pieces by the likes of Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels etc.

The first thing I noticed was that with only the rare exception, if an item does sell, it's one that has been "sent to auction", not one that is a "buy it now". In our Ruby Lane Shops, all items are "buy it now". So looks like ebay vendors are experiencing the same thing we are: sales are slow to non-existent in the higher end market ... most unusual for this close to Christmas I must say!

But now, how did that get me to Van Cleef & Arpels' "Alhambra" line of jewelry? (That's what Mariah is showing off in that photo above). Well, what was selling on eBay, at incredible prices, be it a "buy it now" or auction, were those Alhambras ... and the prices? Oooh la la! Take the one shown below:

That baby had 3 offers on it and it sold for a mere $48,000! Now granted, it has a total of 10.4cts of diamonds, and being VCA, those diamonds will be only the best. Apparently, currrent retail on this 20-motif necklace is around $90,000, so I guess it was a steal at $48,000. Then there was this "extremely rare" 5-motif jade  Alhambra bracelet no longer made by VCA shown below:

The owner/seller says she paid $4000 for it and hoped to get more. Well she did. She got $5500. If you fancy one of these, and can afford it (I can't!) this EBAY SELLER is asking a mere $8299 for the 12-motif turquoise Alhambra below:

After seeing all that, I decided to do a little research on VCA's Alhambra line. According to this very interesting article HERE, the line was introduced in the 60's but didn't do all that much. Then in 2001, when VCA added some more pieces to the line, celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Sharon Stone rediscovered it and bam, it's now being worn on the necks of all who can afford it worldwide. According to the same article, written in 2007,

"The classic line retails from about $1,200 for a pair of earrings to $61,200 for a necklace of diamond clovers, weighing in at 10.5 carats total. Each clover, modeled after the quatrefoil in Moorish architecture, is often referred to as a “station,” which to a Catholic ominously evokes the stations of the cross but somehow seems appropriate, considering the ardor with which Alhambra is collected."

Sadly, as is so often the case when designer pieces, purses, watches etc become that popular, the knockoffs start appearing everywhere. VCA launched a law-suit for $25,000 against super-model, Heidi Klum (shown on left) in December 2007, for her own line of jewelry,  as VCA felt she was seeking to benefit from their reputation.  There's no denying the similarity is there. But of course, Heidi's line would be somewhat more affordable. And as I researched this further, I found current artisans on Etsy who are designing their own 4-leaf clover jewelry that looks just like VCA's but infinitely less expensive. Let's  hope VCA doesn't go after these "little" guys who sell their necklaces for a mere $48, allowing the "poorer" woman to wear what looks expensive and isn't.

But when you think about it, that's exactly how the gorgeous costume jewelry of the 40's to 60's came about. Vintage designers like Sherman, Schiaparelli, Schreiner, Trifari made it possible for the "ordinary" woman to look like she was wearing a fortune on her neck by, in effect, copying the glorious designs and colors of Cartier and others, but using rhinestones and glass crystals where Cartier used diamonds and gemstones. After all, what's the sincerest form of flattery? Imitation. And while so many of us ooh and aah over celebrity jewelry, how many of us can afford the real thing?!

Well that last sentence brings me to my only "pitch" in this post. I asked "how many of us can afford the real thing"? Well if you shop at our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOPS, quite a few of you can. You see, there's one more thing I noticed while surfing eBay today: our prices for our fine jewelry by Cartier, VCA, Tiffany, Birks, Jose Hess etc are often way less than sellers on eBay are asking. That goes so against the common perception that prices on Ruby Lane are way higher than on ebay. Not really.  Our simple, but elegant Van Cleef & Arpels triple diamond wedding band below

is only $1265 in our DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY CLEARANCE CENTER right now. If you search closely on eBay, you'll find their prices are the same as, or higher, than ours. Interestingly enough, I noticed that if 2 ebay sellers have the same item, e.g. a Cartier Love bracelet, and one puts it up for auction and the other sells it as a "buy it now", bidders will bid happily and often as not, they end up paying the same or more than if they'd purchased it as a "buy it now"!

In the end, it all comes back to that wise adage: "it pays to shop around!" When you do, make sure you are comparing apples to apples and not apples to oranges. And finally, we hope you'll continue to check out our CLEARANCE SALE at Ruby Plaza, along with our primary DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOP at RUBY LANE.

Do you recognize the women above? I found these celebrities (and others) HERE while looking for images of what kinds of necklaces celebrities are wearing in 2011. The first thing that struck me, apart from the sheer size of the necklaces these gals are wearing is how similar they are to the vintage costume jewelry of the 50's and 60's or earlier, when big bold necklaces with colourful rhinestones were the jewelry accessory to wear. Sherman, Schiaparelli, Schreiner, DeLizza & Elster ... and so many more. It was their glorious, heavy necklaces, earrings and bracelets that set the style of the day, and today are so highly collectible.

The other thing that struck me was the necklace on that celebrity in the center. We have something so much like it in our DIVINE FINDS SHOP at RUBY LANE:

Hers was most likely made in the past year but ours was made decades ago from beautiful cultured freshwater pearls and 18k gold. The glorious centerpiece, which is actually the clasp, contains 1.26cts of VVS - VVS2 quality diamonds, and is enhanced further by 5-6 carats of CARVED rubies, emeralds and sapphires. Talk about exquisite ... not to mention valuable! 12 visitors to our shop have added this magnificent necklace to their wish lists or cart, and we are willing to listen to your reasonable offer on this one and only "celebrity" style necklace. READ MORE ABOUT IT HERE

Now of course, not all of us are into big and bold. Some prefer demure and dainty, and especially if the price tag is more affordable in this economy. So perhaps this stunning AMETHYST NECKLACE set in 18k gold which we've just re-introduced into our SHOP AT RUBY LANE will better suit your taste:

I just adore this one. It's 16 inches long with 7 rich purple amethysts of varying sizes set into 1 7/8" of centerpiece. Total carats of amethyst is estimated at about 14cts. The amethysts are open-backed to let their full glorious hue show through.  While it's already modestly priced, we'll consider an offer on this one too. Why not slip over and CHECK IT OUT NOW

On a final note, as hinted in the last few posts, we have begun the migration back from our DIVINE FINDS CLEARANCE CENTER at RUBY PLAZA to our regular DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY SHOP at RUBY LANE. There's still a lot of top end jewelry ON SALE at the CLEARANCE CENTER, that will not be on sale once it's back at the Ruby Lane shop. Why wait and pay more? Slip over to DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY CLEARANCE now and snag yourself a great buy!

Delightful ACORN parure is being sold on consignment by

In North America, it's autumn right now, and when I saw this set above which has been given to me to sell on consignment, I couldn't help but think "fall" as we call autumn over here. What a charming set of bracelet, necklace and earrings! And it's in wonderful condition too.

The lady who asked us to sell it for her (one of my regular customers who owns a large collection of costume jewelry) indicated that this is possibly an unsigned SELRO. I'm not all that familiar with that vintage costume jewelry designer, but if any of you reading this blog can shed some light on that, I'd be very grateful. Certainly, the workmanship and materials used are of designer quality.

The necklace in this vintage "acorn" parure is 16" long and has 13 brown and beige acorns, nestled in gold-plated leaves. There are 6 clusters of the same in the 7" bracelet, and a cluster in each of the 1 1/4" clip-on earrings which are stamped "pat  pending".  Something about this set makes me think of cosying up in a sweater in front of a roaring fireplace. Just perfect "in the cool, cool, cool of the evening..."

Another piece whose colors are just perfect for the autumn season and which we are also selling on consignment for yet another customer is the designer handcrafted LEATHER LILY PIN below:

Yes, I know lilies are more suited to Easter, but again, it's the colors in this wonderful piece by "DAPHNE" that make me think autumn ... you know, that last bit of green against which the flower is showing some browning ... etc etc.
We're priced this one so low to sell it for our client. It's only $25. What an inexpensive, but welcome Christmas gift, maybe for Grandma from her favourite Grandchild?

From the same consigner who is offering the Acorn Parure above, comes this popular TOPAZ KITE BRACELET by JULIANA shown below:

Again, how perfect are those deep brown topaz crystals for fall? Immediately identifiable to collectors of Juliana by the 5 link construction, this lovely kite bracelet accented by large aurora borealis stones weighs an impressive 56 grams.   It's on sale at DIVINE FINDS JEWELRY at RUBY LANE and our consigner will consider your offers. Why not try yours today?

And while this next piece isn't costume jewelry, since we talking about jewelry whose colors suit the season, one of our newer additions to our RUBY LANE SHOP is the stunning genuine golden topaz and diamond ring shown below:

This gorgeous 10k ring features a nearly 8ct utterly clear genuine topaz flanked either side by 4 bright diamonds. The setting is stunning and such a large stone is  definitely eye-catching. The price is right too. Check it out HERE!

Just a reminder that currently, several of our top jewelry pieces have been put in our CLEARANCE CENTER at RUBY PLAZA for a limited time. Be sure to pop over and take a look around. Some items have been reduced as much as $500, and the clearance prices include designers like Cartier, Tiffany & Van Cleef & Arpels. But they are available at these lowered prices for a LIMITED TIME only. So act now to save. Thanks for reading.
